Former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel (AK), Former Republican Congressman Bob Barr (GA) to Participate in the Heartland Libertarian Conference Next Weekend.
(Kansas City) - Former United States Senator Mike Gravel from Alaska was, up until this week, a Democratic candidate for President. That changed when he joined the Libertarian Party and announced he was continuing his campaign for the White House.
Gravel will make his first debate appearance as a Libertarian at the Heartland Libertarian Conference, which takes place April 4th - 6th in Kansas City. He served as a Senator from Alaska from 1969 to 1981.
Other confirmed participants in the debate are:
University professor Dr. George Phillies (MA)
Entrepreneur and FOX News, MSNBC and CNN contributor Wayne Allyn Root (NV)
Entrepreneur and founder of Reset America Michael Jingozian (OR)
Award winning humanitarian and freelance writer Christine Smith (CO)
Author and professor Dr. Mary Ruwart (TX)
In addition to the Libertarian Presidential candidates' debate, the event will feature a keynote address by former Republican Congressman Bob Barr from Georgia, who has joined the Libertarian Party and now serves on the Libertarian National Committee.
Barr is best known for leading the impeachment effort against President Bill Clinton.
Event coordinator Mike Ferguson commented that the additions of Gravel and Barr shows how the LP is benefitting from frustration with the two major parties, "Senator Gravel and former Congressman Barr come from very different political backgrounds, but they share the understanding that neither the Republican nor the Democratic Party offer real solutions for America.
"The Libertarian Party offers real answers. The fact that prominent members of both major parties are coming to the LP is encouraging not just for the party, but for all voters who are tired of politics without principles. America has a real choice and Mr. Barr, Mr. Gravel and the other Libertarian candidates now offer that choice."
The Libertarian Party's national Chair, Bill Redpath, will also address the event.
