Complete Text of My Speech to Second the Nomination of Former Congressman Bob Barr for President of the United States
Delivered Sunday, May 25th, 2008 at the Libertarian Party National Convention in Denver, CO
This is the complete text of the speech I wrote for the nomination of Bob Barr for President. I edited out the words in Italics while on stage when my time ran short. ATLAS! Liberty PAC Chairman Mark Rutherford (L-IN) “handed off” the stage to me.
I mentioned the fact that I am elected and appointed to local office after Mark stressed the importance of getting Libertarians in office in order to make a positive difference in America.

When I delivered the opening address to this convention two days ago, I asked that we all – candidates and activists – maintain civility and respect for one another in the face of some differences of opinion.
I walked off the stage thinking that I had done my part…but there’s no way that was going to happen.
Thank God I was wrong.
I think you’ll all agree with me that all seven candidates who debated on this stage last night did a fantastic job last night of presenting the Libertarian message to America.
In my 13 years as a member of this party, I have never been as proud to be a Libertarian as I was last night!
We have several excellent communicators of the libertarian message to choose from – and all carry the same message of freedom and liberty.
The question we have before us today is: who will deliver that message the most effectively, the most credibly and to the most people?
What we must decide today is whether or not we are ready to step forward and step up and be that voice of liberty that American’s want.
How loudly do we want to proclaim our message of freedom?
We have the opportunity – right now – to take our message, the American message, to more people than never before!
If we nominate Bob Barr, we will make a difference in America this year.
We will lay the foundation for the next phase of growth: growth of our party and growth of our principles.
We will win more votes than ever before.
We will attract more activists and candidates who will continue our growth next year…and the years after that.
Since joining the LP, Bob Barr has traveled all over the country to support our candidates and our local organizations.
Bob Barr, through his role on the Libertarian National Committee and through his personal effort, is building the LP through leadership.
Since joining the Libertarian National Committee, Bob has leveraged his political skill, his experience and his credibility with the media to take our message to millions of people!
I am honored to second the nomination of Bob Barr for President of the United States because we’ve all worked too hard for liberty to miss this opportunity to have the impact – now and in the future – that we want and that America needs.
I ask you to join me in voting to nominate Congressman Bob Barr!
