Comments in response to the interview with Mike Evans, Democratic candidate for Missouri Lieutenant Governor (June 2, 2007)

I have four points to make here in response to Mike Evans:

First, Mr. Evans needs to define working class. After that he needs to quit using the phrase. The last time I checked anyone that held a job was part of the working class. This phrase makes my blood boil, it is used to evoke an emotional response in people.

Second, I am tired of individuals in the government encouraging me to pay for someone else's healthcare. It is not my responsibility and not my problem. I frankly don't care that they chose not to assume the responsibility of educating themselves about something so important as protecting their future. I especially refuse to pay for an individual’s healthcare that is two to three times my age!

Third, Mr. Evans is right teachers don't make enough money. I know firsthand as I am married to one and I am going to be one. His other points about education are simply statements that no one could disagree with, but nothing of real substance. C'mon, who in their right mind would not want teachers to "be specifically prepared to teach young adolescents.

Fourth, quit using the phrase "giving back to the community." This has become a cliche in our society. Sure there is nothing wrong with being involved and wanting to help others, but don't tell me I owe them something because of our common humanity! Giving back presupposes the idea that they did something for me, I ask what exactly?

Mr. Evans sounds to me like a typical modern politician and liberal, spend my money and tell me that I am responsible for other people. Please...tell me something new.
