Brothers Charged with Guitar Theft

A pair of brothers has decided to plead guilty to charges from the police that they were part of a series of burglaries from various music stores in the area where they lived and they were originally arrested by the police in a local CVS in January. The sheriff’s office suggested that the young men, who were in their twenties, stole at least nine guitars with the intent of selling them for profits instead of deciding to learn how to play guitar. The stolen guitars included several six-string style and bass guitars with brand names including Lentz, Gibson and Fender.

The way the pair stole the guitars was that they would pretend to be prospective buyers at the various music stores and would then later sell the stolen goods to pawn shops. The music stores from which the guitars were stolen were in various nearby cities such as Carlsbad, San Diego, San Marcos and Encinitas and fortunately all of the guitars were eventually found at the pawn shops and returned to the music stores.

The crimes that the pair pled guilty to included a pair of felonies such as first-degree burglary and drug possession for the younger brother and a pair of first and second-degree burglary charges for the older brother. The young men will soon be sentenced for their crimes and it is expected that they will each be given sentences of about five years but due to the significant overcrowding in California jails, it is unlikely they will serve out their entire sentences.
